America is a different society, a different country, than it was in 2015. America has been INFECTED with a destructive virus: antidemocracyism. Calculating and cynical forces have been unleashed. Hatred, greed, suspicion have been unleashed. Religious intolerance, masquerading as “religious freedom,” has been unleashed. YOU have been told to be afraid – of “them.” The mass middle class prosperity of 1947-73 has been DELIBERATELY DESTROYED. Norms of decency and respect for others have been destroyed. “Democracy” isn’t just rules and laws. “Democracy” used to be how we as Americans treated each other. “Democracy” is intent to “..promote the general Welfare..” America is not, never has been perfect – but from 1901-1980, America was, BY INTENT, taking strides toward achieving a real Democracy. But – step-by-step, since 1981, mass democracy – one that tried to “..promote the general Welfare..”, has been DELIBERATELY SABOTAGED. By whom ???
By. TEAM FAR RIGHT – by “supreme court” corruption, by tax laws favoring already obscenely rich, by a coordinated propaganda war to convince YOU that black is white, by legislation at state and federal levels taking away 1901-1980 democratic reforms.
Since 2015 – all this deliberate antidemocratic destruction has been on steroids. A man whom some have called “a fascist to the core,” “a moron,’ “a flawed person,” a man whom many describe as having two priorities: greed and revenge – has been INFECTING America with his warped conduct; most especially with his LYING; his often monumental cruelty; his poisonous rhetoric; his transactional conduct; a man who has desecrated the office once held by Washington, Lincoln, FDR, Eisenhower; a man whi has weakened the very soul of America.

5]. “It turns out..when you mix narcissism and nihilism, you create an acid that corrodes every belief system it touches. This Trumpian cocktail has eaten away at Christianity…if Trumpianism has a central tenet, it is untrammeled lust for worldly power….The Nietzschean Ubermenschen – which Trump and Musk clearly believe themselves to be – offer the premise of domination over those sick sentimentalists who practice compassion.”

6]. “Trumpian nihilism has eviscerated conservatism. The people in this administration are not conservatives…Trumpism trashes moral norms in every direction…Trump bulldozes checks and balances…the Trump administration couldn’t care less about promoting democracy – or about human dignity.”

7]. “..we have reached a point of traumatic rupture. A demagogue has come to power and is ripping everything down..what’s likely to happen is..the demagogue will start making mistakes, because incompetence is built into the nihilistic project…Authoritarian nihilism is inherently stupid…They are pathologically self-destructive. When you create an administration in which one man has all the power and everybody else has to flatter his voracious ego, stupidity results. Authoritarians are also morally stupid. Humility, prudence, and honesty..are practical tools that produce good outcomes. When you replace them with greed, lust, hypocrisy, and dishonesty, terrible things happen…. When Trump creates an unnecessary crisis, its unlikely to be a small one.”

8]. ‘..although Trumpism’s collapse is a necessary condition for national recovery, it is not a sufficient one. Its demise must be followed by the hard work necessary to achieve true civic and political renewal.” [ Brooks provides six things America must do to repair the damage to US that Trumpism has caused. ]

Think of Trumpism as a plague, a pandemic. It has attacked the body of American democracy. America will NOT. BE. HEALTHY. until the last vestiges of Trumpism have been expunged. The cure will be more democracy. It will be a return to what was achieved between 1947-1980 economically – a SHARING of America’s wealth, NOT tax cuts for the rich. It will be a return to government that cares about ordinary people – NOT one that cuts funding for health, education, government services. Itr will be one in which civil rights are once again available to ALL Americans – a simple decency, one that thinks most people are good, NOT “bad.” It will be a society in which WE strive for love and respect – NOT one in which some people get rich by promoting hatred, some get rich by LYING and spreading falsehoods.

Donald Trump has been a cancer. America will not be healthy as long as he and his disciples have ANY power, are listened to by ANYBODY. Trump as president isn’t just a NIGHTMARE – him being elected twice is an embarrassment. People around the world look at America differently BECAUSE ‘we’ elected him. What is wrong with the Americans? How could they have been so stupid?

But – unfortunately, Trump isn’t alone. The greatest mass murders of al, time – Stalin, Hitler, Mao – didn’t kill millions. Their followers did. Trump hasn’t murdered American democracy by himself – his followers, his enablers, his funders, his apologists did. The beginning of the end of the Trumpian nightmare MUST start with individual acts of courage from people like YOU. Must continue with the 2026 elections. Must continue until no fragment of the Trumpian virus infects OUR society and government. The post- World War II Germans have shown us how it can be done. WE can do this. BUT – let YOUR voice be heard, please.

More, DELIBERATE, Misinformation – for Political “Gain” by Various Perps on thr Right

A well regarded Minnesota politician – Melissa Hortman – was assassinated. Police soon caught the gun man. People who knew him testified to his political beliefs. But – people on the political right decided to take advantage of this tragedy – by deliberately spreading falsehoods. Consider the following examples from Elwood Watson’s August, 2025 column in The Progressive Populist:

1] “Several Republican politicians, including Vice President J.D. Vance, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, and Louisiana Representative Steve Scalise [whose life a Black, liberal, lesbian police officer saved], blamed the shooting on the “far left” and liberals’ continual demonization of President Donald Trump.”

2]. “Right-wing social media personality Mike Cernovich..amplified the falsehood that Governor Tim Walz demanded the assassination. Laura Loomer, a far-right conspiracy theorist and Trump whisperer, posted that “Walz’s goons are now assassinating lawmakers who support legislation Walz opposes” and denounced the Democratic Party as a “terrorist organization.””

3] “Elon Musk, a Trump “frenemy” and frequent poster of unproven right-wing claims..quote-tweeting claims “the left” killed Hortman and writing “the far left is murderously violent.” Viva Frei, a right-wing X user..posted a thread casting doubt on suspected shooter Vance Boelter being a Trump supporter.”

4] “His roommate, D.C., told reporters Boelter voted for Trump and “was a strong supporter of the president. Other longtime friends told local media Boelter was right-leaning.”

For perspective – consider the following excerpt from Nathan Pemberton”s 7/13/25 New York Times article: “The Radical Trolls Who Are Influencing the White House”:

“If you want to know where Republican politics is heading, look at the memes. Since the start of its second term, the Trump administration and its G.O.P. surrogates have been crashing out onlne. Like an unhinged Zoomer, they’ve relentlessly posted sadistic memes about policy decisions in the style of social media trends. A highlight reel of ICE arrests set to “Ice Ice Baby.” An A.S.M.R.-style video that features people in shackles boarding a deportation flight. An image of a woman being arrested, rendered in the style of a Hayao Miyazaki movie. The Vice President has threatened his critics with deportation via a GIF image. One Republican congressman even suggested that an undocumented migrant be thrown out of a helicopter, Pinochet style.”

Once, a Republican President said that trust was what held government together. Much later, a leader of another country said; ‘A lie told often enough becomes the truth.’ His name was V.I. Lenin.

THE question is very simple: If we allow, encourage blatant lying – then how much longer will American democracy last? If blatant falsehoods get rewarded – then how do we have the necessary public debates ghat lead to intelligent, rational policy decisions like mitigating climate change crisis [which some claim to be “a hoax]?????

If one political ‘side” NEEDS perceived “enemies’ to be against, who ‘must” be eliminated – then are they required to lie??? If one political ‘side” NEEDS perceived “enemies’ to stoke fear, hatred, and anger – then are they required to act against these ‘enemies’ by ANY. means – in order to “save America”????????

If some people are willing to lie about an assassination. – what else are they willing to lie about ???????

The Present, And Worsening Threat Of Irrationality And Blatant Lies To Democracy

What does it mean for a society, especially for a “democratic” society, when it is infected by waves of IRRATIONALITY and obvious, deliberate, blatant LIES. When the goal of some is to create doubt, confusion, and division?

– vaccines are “bad”
– climate change crisis is “a hoax”
– the 2020 American presidential election was “stolen”
– immigrants are “stealing American jobs”
– cutting taxes for the rich is “good” for America, benefits will “trickle down” to ME
– America was founded as a “Christian nation”

1]. vaccines are “bad”. – Among other things, health improved in the 20th century because of scientific advances such as public health measures, improved sanitation, new medical knowledge – and vaccines. Just one current example: measles were declared eliminated in America around 2000. then anti-vaxxers gained influence – and we have serious outbreaks among mostly unvaccinated people. American schools routinely required students get vaccinated against highly infectious diseases. then – anti-vaxxers gained influence – some diseases are making comebacks. COVID 19 is a glaring example of unvaccinated people dying in greater numbers – and the threat they posed to people around them. Many wore masks longer, stayed away from crowds because of the threat to THEIR health by people refusing to get COVID 19 vaccinations.

2] climate change crisis is “a hoax”. – Headlines alone refute this: fires, floods, deforestation, droughts, heat waves, oceans heating up, the arctic melting, animals and plants migrating away from the equator, and much more. Fossil fuel corporations admitted climate change was real in the 1970s – have fought against change ever since. Petro states and fossil fuel corporations pump out continual misinformation and lies about dangers to the earth, plants, animals, and people on it. Heat records are continually being set and reset…………..

3]. the 2020 American presidential election was ‘stolen” – The loser lost by 7 million popular votes. He lost by tens of thousands of votes in marginal ‘electoral college” states. Numerous people, including people from his own political party, acknowledged that he lost. Elections people from all over America testified to the honesty of the election. This BIG. LIE. has become a cult ‘loyalty test” – one must support this Big Lie to be in good standing with the sore loser.

4]. immigrants are ‘stealing American jobs”. – Farmers have testified they CANNOT get native-born Americans to do the back-breaking work their farms require. One farmer testified he has recruited immigrants for over 15 years because of this FACT. Business people have testified that without immigrants their own business would be in trouble, maybe have to close. America is short over 400,000 manufacturing workers right now. [ 6/24/25; New York Times ]

5]. cutting taxes for the rich is “good’ for America; benefits will “trickle down” to ME. – This has been STATISTICALLY disproven for many years. What HAS happened since 1981 is an ever-increasing income & wealth gap between the rich and the lower 90-95%. There are record numbers of American billionaires, more being added virtually every year. Millions are “food insecure”; hundreds of thousands are homeless; many are forced to work 2-3 jobs to survive. Businesses serving middle class customers are closing. People are NOT having children because they cannot afford to have them. All this, and much more, because the wealth of America is NOT being SHARED like it was 1947-73.

6]. America was founded as a “Christian nation” – it was NOT. We have clear, specific quotes from Founding Fathers against this. Best of all, we have 17776-1800 state constitutions of the original 13 states against this [see Edwin Gaustad’s “Faith of the Founders, Appendix B]. Four states prohibited a “religious test for office” [Article VI]. 8 states banned an active minister from their state government!!! [if we were going to have a “Christian nation” – would not some of the most desirable peope be active ministers?????]. 10 states had language prohibiting an official state church [Amendment I]. North Carolina, 1776 Constitution, Articles XXXIV: “..neither shall any person, on any pretense whatsoever, be compelled to attend any place of worship contrary to his own faith..”, not have to pay to support ‘the maintenance of any minister or ministry contrary to what he believes is right..”

Given the stakes, we believe..it is important to step back and document the range of self-dealing since he took office four months ago:

In doing so, Trump has/is shredding 1779-2016 norms of ethical conduct, ignoring laws with impunity – partially because of the CORRUPT Roberts ‘court’ giving him immunity – an immunity that George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, Eisenhower didn’t need, didn’t ask for. The effect of Trump’s. NORMALIZING. corruption on American society, government, ethics and morals is not totally visible yet. But one thing is certain – the effect. WILL. NOT. BE. POSITIVE.}
